Senior Software Development Engineer, Fieldbus
Job Description

As our Senior Software Development Engineer, you’ll design, develop, and maintain embedded fieldbus communication software that enables Grundfos products to integrate seamlessly with industrial automation systems worldwide. What you will do

  • Design and develop embedded fieldbus protocol stacks (PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, BACnet) for pump controllers and drives
  • Define software architecture for communication modules, ensuring scalability, performance, and compliance with standards
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate fieldbus interfaces and validate communication across industrial networks
  • Drive testing, debugging, and certification of fieldbus implementations against industry specifications
  • Improve development processes, code quality, and reuse across the embedded platform
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical reviews and knowledge‑sharing

What makes you a great fit

  • You are a skilled embedded software engineer with expertise in industrial communication protocols, a systematic approach to problem‑solving, and a drive to deliver reliable, standards‑compliant solutions. Ideally, you have:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 9+ years in embedded C/C++ development for real‑time systems
  • Hands‑on experience with at least two industrial fieldbus protocols (e.g., PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, PROFIBUS, BACnet)
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, Ethernet, serial communication) and embedded RTOS environments

Nice to have:

  • Experience with fieldbus conformance testing and certification (PI, ODVA, BACnet Testing Labs)
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and industrial automation integration
  • Knowledge of functional safety (IEC 61508) or cybersecurity standards (IEC 62443)
