Grundfos is a purpose-driven organisation committed to pioneering solutions to the world’s water and climate challenges while improving quality of life. We embed digital innovation into our products and operations to deliver efficiency and customer value. To support this mission and ensure compliance with evolving digital laws and standards, we are seeking a Lead Legal Counsel to join our Legal, Data, IP & Marketing team.
About the Role
In the role of Lead Legal Counsel, you will work closely with cross-functional colleagues to align legal requirements with our digital strategy and initiatives. You will lead compliance with key technology regulations (e.g., NIS2, the AI Act and EU Data Act) and provide expert legal support on digital, data, and IP-matters, ensuring our innovation advances responsibly and securely.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Digital Law Compliance: Lead and coordinate compliance with digital and cybersecurity laws and regulations (including EU directives/acts, such as NIS2 and the EU Data Act).
- Ensure Cybersecurity and Data Governance: Collaborate with internal teams to embed robust cybersecurity measures and data governance practices into business processes.
- Ensure Data Privacy Compliance: Provide expert advice on the handling of personal data, monitor compliance (e.g., with GDPR), and support privacy initiatives across the company.
- Lead AI Governance: Serve as the legal owner for AI governance, ensuring compliance with the EU AI Act and developing frameworks for responsible AI use across the organisation.
- Stay Ahead of Legal Developments: Monitor and interpret emerging laws and standards in digital technology, data, AI, and IP, and proactively guide the Grundfos business on upcoming requirements and risks.
- Support Development Agreements etc.: Draft, review, and negotiate critical agreements (development, data-sharing, and license agreements) to secure Grundfos’s interests in partnerships and innovation projects.
About you
We are looking for a strategic, proactive legal professional who can navigate complex tech and IP-law issues and communicate clear guidance to diverse stakeholders. You excel at collaboration, can balance attention to detail with pragmatic solutions and are curious.
Furthermore, we are looking for:
- Education: Master’s degree in law (e.g. cand.jur. or LL.M.). An attorney qualification is a plus but not required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles. Experience in digital, technology, or data protection law is highly desirable.
- Expertise: Strong knowledge of EU and national laws in relevant digital domains (cybersecurity, data protection, emerging tech). Familiarity with the GDPR, the EU AI Act, Data Act and NIS 2. Experience with IP-law (especially drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements) is a strong advantage.
- Language: Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Project and Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to engage in projects effectively, coordinate across multiple stakeholders (including technical teams), and translate technical concepts into legal implications.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable using digital tools and AI-driven solutions in legal operations, with an understanding of the opportunities and risks of AI in a legal context and a commitment to promote its responsible use.
