Peerless Pump Company, an Indianapolis based subsidiary of Grundfos, is seeking a Machinist Intern to join its Summer 2026 Intern program in the Horizontal Machining group.

What is the job about? 

 

 

The Machinist Intern will be embedded in the Horizontal Machining group work with the machine shop team being hands on with machines and equipment and operation of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines including vertical, horizontal and multi-axis machining centers, manual machines, lathes and mills.

 

 

This position reports directly to the 1st shift Area Production Supervisor and will operate daily out of the Indianapolis, IN facility (primarily Mon-Fri).

 

 

Relocation for this position cannot be supported and qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.  Sponsorship is not available for applicants for US Work visa status for this opportunity (no sponsorship is available for H-1B, L-1, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, F-1, J-1, OPT, CPT or any other employment-based visa. 

 

 

The salary range for this position is $20/hr.

 

 

Your main responsibilities: 

 

 

  • Assist with production needs.
  • Assist with machine setups mills, lathes, CNC equipment, or other equipment
  • Gain knowledge and experience with machining process.
  • Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and simple blueprints
  • Support CNC programming task, such as loading program or making minor edits.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace following shop safety protocols.
  • Document production data, part counts, and quality checks.
  • Build confidence working in a professional manufacturing environment.
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).

Posting, Reporting, and Work Relations:

 

 

  • Follow all safety and quality procedures and standards and participate in efforts to improve processes, product flow and work standards
  • Complete required paperwork (manual and electronic) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of equipment and work area
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).
  • Inspect parts for conformance to prints and specifications.
  • Performs manual and electronic record keeping and information retrieval functions.
  • Wear required safety PPE.
  • Perform secondary operations such as deburring, chip removal, bushing installation, drilling, and tapping

 

 

Work conditions

 

 

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds,
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, squat, sit, walk, and stand for at least 8 hours a day
  • Must be able to work overtime when required.
  • Non-climate controlled facility.   

 

 

Your background

 

We imagine that you have:  

 

 

  • High School Diploma, GED/HSE/HiSET or equivalent *required by start date
  • Currently pursuing a degree or certificate in machining or a related field.
  • Additional Technical training  *much preferred.

 

  • Competencies:

 

  • Material handling equipment (Lift truck, two wheeled truck, carts, etc.
  • Cranes, hoist, screw jacks, hydraulic jacks.
  • Manual, power driven, and pneumatic hand tools, electronic engraver, Power saw, cutoff wheel, grinders, hydraulic press, radial drill, arbor press, Arc Welding, acetylene cutting equipment and threading machine, Precision measuring instruments, gages, meters
