Senior Buyer
Job Description

Peerless Pump Company, a leading USA pump manufacturer is seeking a Senior Buyer with experience in tactical procurement of castings. This position will be a part of the Peerless Pump Tactical Purchasing Team, with overall responsibility for all tactical purchasing related activities, supporting our pump manufacturing facility. Together with the rest of the Supply Chain function, the buyer will be responsible for ensuring purchased materials are available and on time to ensure customer expectations are met in a financially responsible way. The Buyer must perform daily MRP activities and engage with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials to meet the production schedule.

 

This position reports to the Materials Manager and offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility and two days working remotely from home.

What is the job about?

 

  • Responsible for the management of daily tasks impacting delivery performance including but not limited: Purchase order submittals in SAP, follow up on demand vs supply, work with vendors to ensure on time delivery, and reconcile supply/vendor related discrepancies.
  • Execute daily MRP transactions in SAP to ensure supply chain integrity and on time delivery of purchased parts.
  • Review material demand and react to systems messages to ensure materials are allocated properly.
  • Interact with suppliers to communicate delivery expectations and ensure suppliers meet confirmed delivery.
  • Solicit quotes from approved suppliers.
  • Assist in maintenance of material master records for assigned materials and ensure accurate material master information.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies affected by pricing or delivery issues.
  • Maintain positive supplier relations function as the primary interface between Suppliers and Master Planners.
  • Escalate issues with supplier performance that impact delivery to customers and be able to initiate action items to improve supplier performance when issues arise.

 

What do you need to apply?

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business or Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5+ years in a Buyer role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of MRP.
  • Experience working in an ERP system, preferably SAP (MM and PP modules).
  • Strong knowledge of foundry processes, tooling, and casting materials is preferred to directly support product quality.
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong time management skills with a sense of urgency.
  • Thorough with the ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel to Mexico a few days out of the year to meet with our Suppliers.
