Peerless Pump Company, a Grundfos subsidiary, is seeking an experienced Product Engineer to join its Project Engineering team.  The Product Engineer will be responsible for the day to day engineering support of the pump product line in accordance with corporate standards and departmental goals and objectives, as well as new product development or enhancements projects.  Individual may act as project manager for assigned development projects. The Product Engineer will collaborate with sales, service, machine shop, purchasing, assembly, testing, quality, order processing and configuration.  This position reports directly to the Director of Engineering and will operate daily out of the Indianapolis, IN facility, with the ability to work remote from home 1 day per week.  Relocation for this position cannot be supported and qualified candidates must have authorization to work in the USA without support.

What is the job about? 

  • Maintain and update accurate product data in electronic and manual product selection tools (e.g. configurators, Excel, Revit, ERP, web, binders, drawing vault, guides, brochures, etc.).
  • Read, create and modify 2D/3D drawings, including reverse engineering components from 3D scans using surface modeling techniques to create 3D solid models.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, guides, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Conduct engineering calculations and analysis (FEA, Torsional, Seismic, etc.) on projects per national codes and specifications, such as Hydraulic Institute (HI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), ANSI, etc., to optimize product quality and minimize cost.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to develop new products and execute cost reduction design projects by establishing project plans and manages projects to timely completion.
  • Coordinate activities with Product Management, Operations and Quality to ensure design suitability for market and manufacturability.
  • Support assembly and test department; consult with sales or order processing on orders; work with design engineers and project managers as needed in support of product; participate at quality review meetings and supply disposition on components.
  • Maintain, develop, support, and participate in industry standards and 3rd party approvals, such as HI, UL, Factory Mutual (FM), NFPA, NSF, CE, DOE, etc.
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).

 


What do you need to apply? 

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Four year technical or engineering degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment required. Additionally, have 5+ years’ related experience.
  • Knowledge of design processes & tools (e.g. FEA, Excel VBA, CFD, Rapid Prototyping, DFMA, FMEA, Design of Experiments, etc.).
  • Understanding of pump/rotating equipment principals, construction, hydraulics, application of products, and accessories a plus.
  • Knowledge of international standards a plus, e.g., HI, UL, FM, NFPA, NSF, CE, DOE, etc.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals.  Able to perform engineering duties in a production, test, and field environment. 
  • Able to perform design calculations and analyses (e.g. FEA, Torsional, Seismic, CFD, etc.).
  • Proficient using 3D modeling/2D drafting (CATIA and SolidWorks preferred), AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Task and deadline focused with a strong work ethic and multi-tasking ability.  Must be self-motivated, possessing good judgment and discretion. 
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment taking personal responsibility for assignment and product line.
  • Proficient using Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP Systems (SAP preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; fluent at reading, speaking, & writing English, including technical vocabulary.
  • Capable of mobility in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Able to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to travel up to 5% if necessary. Thus, candidates should be able to maintain valid identification.
