Product Engineer I
Job Description

Peerless Pump Company, a Grundfos subsidiary, is seeking a Product Engineer.  The Product Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day engineering support of the pump product line in accordance with corporate standards and departmental goals and objectives. This position interfaces with individuals at all levels in areas such as sales, service, machine shop, purchasing, assembly, testing, quality, ordering processing and configuration. In addition, the Product Engineer will be responsible for new product development and may act as a project manager for development projects.  This position reports to the Continuous Improvement Director and offers a hybrid work schedule, with three days at our Indianapolis, Indiana facility and two days working remotely from home.

What is the job about?

 

  • Maintain and update accurate product data in electronic and manual product selection tools.
  • Read, create, and modify 2D/3D drawings, including reverse engineering components from 3D scans using surface modeling techniques to create 3D solid models.
  • Support the assembly and test department; consult with sales or order processing on orders; work with design engineers and project managers as needed in support of the product; participate in quality review meetings and supply disposition on components.
  • Conduct engineering calculations and analysis (FEA, Torsional, Seismic, etc.) on projects per national codes and specifications, such as Hydraulic Institute (HI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), ANSI, etc., to optimize product quality and minimize cost.
  • Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, guides, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Work within cross-functional teams to develop new products and execute cost reduction design projects by establishing project plans and manage projects to timely completion.
  • Coordinate activities with Product Management, Operations and Quality to ensure design sustainability for market and manufacturability.
  • Maintain, develop, support, and participate in industry standards and 3rd party approvals.
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards.

 

What do you need to apply?

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience is required in a related industry.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals with the ability to perform engineering duties in a production, test and field environment.
  • Ability to perform design calculations and analyses
  • Proficient experience using 3D modeling/2D drafting (CATIA and SolidWorks preferred), AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of the design processes & tools.
  • Understanding of pump/rotating equipment, construction, hydraulics, application of products and accessories is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
