Freight Manager

What is the job about?

 

As a Freight Manager, you will be responsible for all activities and people related to domestic and international distribution and transportation to and from Peerless.

The Freight Manager reports directly to Logistics Manager and manages all aspects of the delivery process, this position will operate out of the Indianapolis, IN facility in a hybrid function.

 

Relocation for this position cannot be supported and qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. Sponsorship is not available for applicants for US Work visa status for this opportunity (no sponsorship is available for H-1B, L-1, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, F-1, J-1, OPT, CPT or any other employment-based visa.

 

Your main responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the International Compliance and Logistics (ICL) and Traffic office teams, with regular team meetings.
  • Manage and coordinate the distribution and transportation – both inbound from suppliers and outbound to customers.
  • Define, implement, communicate and maintain SLAs with carriers, forwarders and customers.
  • Maintain close contact with internal Customer Service team AND end customers to support all freight requirements.
  • Close cooperation with purchase for freight contract negotiation and follow up.
  • Develop, document and improve trade compliance W.I., SOPs and policies for import and export customs.
  • Educate internal staff and manage stakeholders to raise awareness for trade compliance and its implications to a chosen or proposed supply chain set-up.
  • Map, document and continuously update an overview of import duties and free trade agreements (FTAs)
  • Manage CTPAT certification with vendors assessment and local training.
  • Optimize the use of various duty leverage opportunities, including (but not limited to) various relevant FTAs, bonded manufacturing and logistics setups.
  • Export control.
  • Manage the creation of all freight documents.
  • Manage the delivery process including Handling unit Creation.
  • Export control.
  • Manage Letter of Credit.
  • Peerless representative in Regional Trade Compliance.
  • Manage open deliveries.

Your background

We imagine that you have: 

 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience with trade compliance, customs, and logistics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with carriers, forwarders both local and international.
  • Some experience with International Trade Compliance audit and/or assessment.
  • Strong sense of accountability to proactively seek out solutions and carry them out when they come across a challenge.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to create relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strong sense of urgency and prioritization according to business needs.
  • Advanced I.T. skills such as ERP systems (SAP), Microsoft Office, reports.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Advanced proven knowledge about CTPAT, Export Control, Trade Agreement, Tariff classification (commodity codes
