Peerless Pump, an Indianapolis based subsidiary of Grundfos, is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join its Field Service Team.

 

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for field service applications, system diagnostics, pump commissioning and other service related functions.   This position reports directly to the Service Director and will be based out of the Indianapolis facility.

 

Relocation for this position cannot be supported and qualified candidates must have authorization to work in the USA without support.

What is the job about?

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Provide technical expertise to end-users.
  • Provide pump start up and re-commissioning service to end users and sales channel partners.
  • Domestic and international travel.
  • Provide system diagnostics, analysis and recommendations as required by customers.
  • Develop innovative ideas for the growth of parts and service business through service related activities.
  • Perform field diagnostic service such as laser alignment and vibration analysis.
  • Provide in-depth support to sales for the key accounts program including the development of site survey formats, economic justifications for new equipment, etc.
  • Provide technical sales support as required from time to time to key account customers.
  • Understanding of all Peerless product lines and the ability to perform repair, start up, installation and removal of all product lines.
  • Provide training to end users as required by contractual agreements.
  • Play a key role in the development, creation and production of Service training programs.
  • Provide a source of general technical and business advice and guidance, specific and general to Management team that is specific to field service.
  • Provide knowledge and expert advice to Service department and co-workers.
  • Maintain a professional image to reflect Peerless Pump in the best possible light.
  • May be involved in sales opportunities as required by management and the sales channel.
  • Undertake other duties as requested from time to time.
  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Communication, Internal Controls, etc.).
  • Executes agreed maintenance services on customer pump equipment.
  • Prepares clear and complete service reports and ensures that these are submitted on time (warranty claims, working hours).
  • Disassembles, inspects, trouble-shoots, repair and replace parts, reassemble pumps, pump systems and accessories in shop or in a field service

  • Highly developed field-based (customer facing) and phone-based technical skill sets
  • High level of comfort with ambiguity; can pivot quickly during service situations
  • Autonomous self-starter that knows when to ask for support
  • Ability to establish customer centric dialogues with creating value for customers

 

Posting, Reporting, and Work Relations

 

Position reports to the Service Director.  Will regularly interact with external customers, internal customers, and shop floor personnel.

 

Your background

 

We imagine that you have:  

 

  • Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical subject *much preferred
  • Technical education *preferred
  • 5+ years relevant sales/commercial/technical experience considered in lieu of technical degree.
  • International travel experience *much preferred
  • Very strong communication skills – written and verbal.  Fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Must be able to obtain, hold and maintain a valid US Passport
  • Must maintain valid drivers license
  • Must be able to travel up to 75%, including internationally

 

Competencies

 

  • Computer literacy essential on all normal Office applications.
  • Understanding of Peerless business systems.
  • Product knowledge and experience with hydraulics and pumping systems to a very high level are also required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to stand for extended periods, frequently grasp tools, stoop, crouch, twist, reach, push/pull, stand, and walk when performing duties. 
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in a non-climate controlled shop or in a field environment.
