Engineering
Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description

Are you passionate about optimizing production processes and bringing new manufacturing equipment to life on the factory floor? Then join us in our mission to pioneer smarter solutions for moving and transforming water, reducing energy consumption, and enhancing quality of life for people.

As our new Manufacturing Engineer in Japan (Hamamatsu), you will be driving production process excellence, introducing new equipment, and leading improvement projects at our Hamamatsu manufacturing site — bridging design intent with shop-floor reality. You'll be part of a diverse, supportive and inclusive culture, that celebrates our differences and puts people first by fostering growth, well-being, and a sense of belonging.

What you will be doing

As a key part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you'll create impact by Optimizing production processes and introducing automation that directly improves quality, efficiency, and sustainability of Grundfos pump manufacturing in Japan..

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Manage production process control including cycle times, SOPs, work instructions, and ECM documentation in SAP
  • Introduce and validate new production equipment such as pump testing systems in collaboration with Group Manufacturing Engineering and local suppliers
  • Implement GPS tools (Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping) to optimize layout, production flow, and operator efficiency
  • Translate design and product changes into manufacturable production processes using VPC workflows
  • Lead ME/ECM-related projects, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure alignment of layout, process, and equipment
  • Drive continuous improvement of packaging materials, fixtures, tools, and test equipment

What makes you a great fit

Above all, you are a hands-on production engineering professional with strong communication skills, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to collaborate across functions while leading small projects from concept to shop-floor implementation. We would also imagine that you have:

  • 4–7 years of experience in production engineering, manufacturing setup, equipment installation, or process optimization
  • Experience in production engineering development or production preparation, including planning or implementing automation
  • Japanese at business level (able to communicate with local suppliers); English reading/writing at intermediate level with basic speaking ability
  • Familiarity with manufacturing best practices, production systems, and cross-functional collaboration

It is a plus if you also:

  • Experience with SAP for engineering change management or production documentation
  • Hands-on knowledge of Lean/GPS tools such as Standard Work or Value Stream Mapping
  • Experience introducing pump testing equipment or similar production validation systems

Why you will love working here

We care! Day to day, you can look forward to:

  • A working environment built around your needs, with flexible hours, home working opportunities and parental support.
  • Annual bonuses, health insurance and a strong focus on well-being activities.
  • Three days' additional paid leave for volunteering in your community.
  • Access to on-demand training and learning sessions and carefully structured programmes to pursue personal and professional development opportunities.
