Grundfos is seeking an APU Manager to join our DBS Operations team in Fresno, CA. The APU Manager is responsible for organizing and carrying out the production of the Fresno plant (GMU) products in the designated Autonomous Production Unit. The APU Manager is responsible for the inception, development, and successful implementation of programs to improve safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost reduction, and employee development.  This position is the GPS (Grundfos Production System) champion for the PILAR 4 – Production concept. It is responsible for developing and implementing company-wide policies and procedures in conjunction with other department managers. The position reports directly to the DBS VP of Operations. Relocation for this position may be supported and qualified candidates must have authorization to work in the USA without support.

 

What is the job about? 

 

  • Enable a safe working environment and ensures that employees actively place safety as their highest priority through ongoing training.
  • Develop and work with others to create ways of improving product quality.  Ensure that each employee is thoroughly trained and performs all work according to work and control instructions. Define work standards with the help of support functions.
  • Monitor competencies for the team and develop its autonomy through training plan building, follow-up & training actions implementation.
  • Organize and staff production to meet the forecasted sales and inventory targets on-time.  
  • Validate capacity of APU and communicate for SIOP (Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning).
  • Be accountable for APU SQIDCP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Cost & People) performance and profitability.  
  • Develop and implement changes to reduce production costs.  
  • Develop employees through onboarding, performance reviews, the Employee Career Development Program, and other means.
  • Establish work practices that minimize the environmental impact of the department's processes, reduce the consumption of resources, and reduce overall waste. 
  • Champion 5S activities to maintain and upgrade the orderliness and cleanliness of the plant. 
  • Facilitate and sponsor the preventive maintenance system to minimize equipment downtime and to maintain quality.
  • Assign & check corrective actions on recurring problems within APU. 
  • Conduct regularly scheduled employee group meetings to communicate company goals, results, and happenings.
  • Lead Daily Action Meettings (DAM) & review action plans to improve SQIDCP performance (actual and targets).
  • Role model for cross-functional collaboration and balance, constantly value-adding with striving for efficiencies in the whole APU.
  • Manage the budget of the APU and the appropriate resources.

 

What do you need to apply? 

 

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelors degree in Engineering, or other related field and additonally have a minimum of 5 years in supervision and leadership in a manufacturing environment. 

 

  • Strong leadership and motivation on supporting a growing business.
  • Change Management Experience.
  • Skilled in monitoring and supervising changes to business processes and systems, technology, job roles, and structures within the organization and play a crucial role in ensuring that team members embrace the change.
  • They ensure that change projects are implemented on time and within budget.
  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing.
  • Experience in quality, continuous improvement, and supply chain is considered a big plus.
  • Good people skills and shop floor presence.
  • Basic knowledge of P&L and Balance sheet. 
  • Basic knowledge of Master Production Schedule (MPS) process.
  • Knowledge of safety risk assessment. 
  • Customer centric sense of urgency.
  • End to end perspective.
  • Strong collaborator in an international environment.
